Sacral Chakra: Inviting Passion And Making Connections

Diving into the sacral chakra can be a lot of fun! Partially focused on creativity, pleasure, and passion, there is an opportunity to explore and partake in some of the things that make life the most joyful. Like all chakra work, the sacral can be a challenge too, for, with the added focus on emotions and connection in this chakra, we are called to remember the things that make us feeling human beings.

The sacral chakra is associated with the element of water, which is fitting, because this chakra is all about letting things flow naturally.

Whether we have been led to believe it or not, we are all creative in our own way. While my own creativity comes to me most easily through writing, you don’t have to be an artist to use the creative part of your brain. In fact, some of the most creative minds are scientists who are working to create new approaches to solve problems and teachers who find creative ways to reach learners.

No matter how you use your creativity, the challenge tends to be the restrictions that are put upon us by society. In my case, although I haven’t stopped writing since I was a teenager, it took me decades to get past the notion that there was no way for it to be at the forefront of my life if I wanted to have any sense of financial security. When we are given a rigid set of rules as our only approach, change cannot take place. So, it is when we step outside of the way we are told things should be, that we develop new possibilities for our ourselves and our world. I had to be creative by adapting my thinking to understand how I could make writing into a business, but once I did, I felt a new sense of flow in my life.

While pleasure and passion are closely connected, let’s examine each separately first. Pleasure is whatever makes you feel good. Passion is that which you are most excited about; that thing that makes you thrilled to wake up each morning. While feeling pleasure doesn’t have to come from our passion, our passion always brings us pleasure. With how difficult the modern world and capitalism make it to survive, it is no wonder that so many of us let pleasure and passion get deprioritized, ignored, or forgotten altogether. But the result of that is bleak, so we must make time to invite these things back into our lives. Not all of us can turn our passion into a career, but there are always ways to prioritize our time so there is room for what makes our souls sing. Considering a minimalist mindset can help immensely with this; you might want to read my blog post on minimalism.

It may be difficult to understand how on Earth pleasure and emotions can be covered in the same chakra. We all know that emotions are not always pleasurable, after all. In our culture, we are often discouraged from showing emotion, which makes it even more difficult to connect to how we’re feeling. Just as I did in the past, many people have gotten used to repressing emotions, reasoning that it’s easier not to feel them at all. But I can tell you from experience; just because you ignore them, doesn’t mean they go away. If we don’t acknowledge the emotions, allow them, sit with them, and work through them, some will damage your mind and your body and others will cause you to go to dangerous extremes. We must remember that emotions are messengers, and when we make space for them, they will tell us so much about ourselves and what is right for us.

While quiet and meditative practices are helpful for allowing and sitting with an emotion, one of the best ways to work through it, it to share it with someone you trust. There is something amazing that happens when your truth hits the air and the ear of someone who is supportive. Emotions are complex; we are not meant to navigate them alone. This, naturally brings us to the last aspect of the sacral chakra: connection.

Connection with others can be a challenge in today’s society. Many of us try to close ourselves off from others because it feels safer than trusting again after you’ve been hurt. But the result of deep isolation is far more dangerous again, I tell you this from experience. At one time, I was so deep inside of myself that, when I finally emerged, the extent to which I had shut people out scared me.

If you read my post about the root chakra, you know that this is where we learn how to build our own foundation by reconnecting to ourselves and trusting our own divine wisdom. This requires some insight about how to relate to yourself and the human experience, and serves as a foundation to relate to others. Once you have established a solid foundation for yourself, you are better equipped to connect with others, because you know that you’re strong enough to navigate even difficult interactions. We are all imperfect, and despite the tendency to disconnect from our genuine selves, we have to learn how to be genuine again and allow others to be imperfect and genuine too. Connection is an essential part of survival, even in our modern world, so, though many of us have the tendency to try to become somewhat disconnected, we need community.

I’m so grateful for the ways our society is changing for the better. We are finally living in an era where we no longer have to settle for giving up the best that life has to offer. We don't have to sacrifice creativity for "a living." We don't have to always put on a brave face; we can allow our emotions. And we certainly don't have to accept fake, surface relationships when there are so many genuine, deep, and beautiful connections to be made if we can just use our passion to be our authentic selves.

When you begin to make efforts to let go of fear and restrictions, embrace to total human experience, then share it with someone else, you can find the flow that comes with sacral chakra healing.
